Helpful Heroes
Why is it that when we're watching superhero movies, we're watching muscly people throw villains through walls, causing all sorts of destruction? But real heroes don't wear capes. Real heroes wear gloves, masks, and aprons, ready to help whenever disaster strikes. Clara Barton was one of those heroes. She started her career in the muddy trenches of the Civil War, reaching out to wounded soldiers in dire situations. After making a name for herself by saving lives on the battlefield, she was just getting started. Clara then traveled to Europe and found out about the Red Cross when she visited Switzerland. After seeing all the good The Red Cross was doing, she was determined to start the American Red Cross and got to work as soon as she returned home!
Design & Details
Inspired by Clara Barton's amazing legacy, our in-house design team was inspired to design a historical costume to let kids roleplay as the important figure. The featured dress zips up the back and has a petticoat built-in to the skirt for extra flounce. The shape of the dress has billowy sleeves with clean white cuffs layered over the forearms. A matching white apron with a red cross on the bodice is layered over the front and tied around the waist for a clean, hospital-ready look. Topped off with a neat bonnet, this costume is ready for school projects, history festivals, and costume parties alike. Designed with quality in mind, your child will be able to slip into this Clara Barton costume over and over again!

The American Red Cross began to do good right away, reaching out for disaster relief for the first time in 1881, a month after the first local chapter opened!
