Did you know that no one actually knows where the word "tutu" even comes from? Nobody has any idea! They don't even the know the derivation of the word! Also, "tutu" isn't even recorded anywhere until 1881, which basically makes it late 19th Century slang, by all accounts.
One theory is that the word "tutu" is simply derived from the word tulle, which is one of the materials from which it is commonly made. Another theory is that it derives from French babytalk for bottom (cucul), which is kind of weird...even French baby talk sound annoying. Yet another theory is presented by a description made from nineteenth-century balletomane, Charles Nuitter, who defined tutu as "a slang term for the very short petticoat worn by dancers in the interest of modesty."
And while this particular Women's Pink and Purple Tutu may not quite fit the third description, at least now you have a fun and interesting party anecdote to go with your costume and entertain your fellow party-goers with!
